O'Paws is highly selective and is committed to providing outstanding individual care and attention for your dog. To maintain our high standards and staff/guest ratio, we are very limited in the number of guests that we can accommodate.

We are certain that after only a few visits, you and your dog will come to appreciate that we are like no other dog day care in San Francisco, perhaps the country.

We do not accept drop-ins or conduct same-day interviews.

The Pack

We have a tightly knit pack made up of mostly hunting dogs. We do have other breeds, and we feel this pack social structure has worked best for our dogs. We prefer to introduce new dogs to the pack a few at a time to give time for everyone to adjust to the new pack member. Although we have a lot of Vizslas in our pack, we accept most other breeds.

A strong pack is a group that sticks together, and most of all, that has fun playing with each other out in the field. Various age ranges in the pack result in the older dogs teaching and guiding the younger ones proper indoor and outdoor decorum within our pack. Many of our clients have been with us since they were puppies.

Outdoor Activities

Your dog will not be confined indoors all day. The majority of your dog's exercise involves outdoor off-leash runs at a local park, usually the Potrero Hill Recreation Center or Stern Grove. Our BMW X5, equipped with rear air conditioning and panoramic sunroom, chauffeurs the pack on their park adventures. During inclement weather, we pay close attention to weather radar so we can schedule runs during breaks in the rain. We also suggest providing a jacket during the rainy season to keep clients warmer. We can even store your dog's jacket on site so you don't have to worry about forgetting to bring it.

Indoor Activities

In between runs, clients can nap on any of our rugs, sofas, or dog beds. Although we allow lighter play indoors, some clients prefer to simply lounge and watch the plasma TV. We provide a variety of chews and toys for entertainment.

Reinforcing Training

We strictly enforce good obedience and reinforce housebreaking. Between the runs at the park and for your dog's convenience, they may make use of our back yard with a 3' x 18' strip of sod that's replaced on a weekly basis (For the green folks, the sod is returned back to earth with our city's green bins). For positive reinforcement, your dog will be given a variety of hand-made, freshly-baked dog treats by Canine Crostini.

General Schedule

• Mid-morning Run (approximately 9:30-11:30 am)
• Afternoon nap
• Mid-Day run (Approximately 1:00-3:00 pm)
• Backyard (sun) lounge time and grooming
• Late afternoon walk (approximately 6:00-6:30 pm)

Having Igby was a trial for this new service for puppies who have not had all their immunization shots. Without all their immunization shots, we do not allow them outside the confines of our compound. We do begin housebreaking early at this stage as it requires frequent breaks on the grass strip in the backyard which is changed with new sod on a regular basis. As a result, these puppies begin socialization with older dogs at a very young age, and keep them protected from exposure to diseases at the parks. However, they will begin to become curious where the older dogs get to go in the X5.

Training Requirement

All puppies and owners must attend and complete puppy training classes within 8 weeks of starting day care. We recommend Dog Gone Good: Michael Wombacher. Other acceptable training services are SF Puppy Prep and A Better Way Dog Training: Bob Gutierrez.

Private Door

At O'Paws, our door is always open, well at least our Private Door. Our Private Door Service is available for all clients who need to schedule care that falls outside our normal business hours. Private Door is by appointment only, $25/hour (in 15-minute increments), 24/7.

These rates are really advantageous to customers with a very regular schedule and committed to using our services 3, 4, or 5 days a week throughout the year. This is great for those who have worked out a regular telecommute schedule with their employer but still want monthly-style pricing.

Refund Policy

All refunds will be pro-rated from the date notice is received in writing and will be processed within 30 days of relationship termination.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations within 24 hours notice will be charged the full day rate. We respect your time—please respect ours.
